One of the moments of the musical documentary 'Volando'

The song 'Volando', born as a simple homage to an aeroplane, has become, in the hands of musician and composer Javier Limón, an original documentary where instruments, voices, and artists from around the world come together and play with the melody. Presented within the framework of the PLATINO Awards, the film shows that, when talent comes together, it can reach new heights.

The most important event within Ibero-American cinema, the PLATINO Awards, took off on the 30th of September in Madrid with an epic soundtrack: the preview of Volando, an original musical documentary directed and written by Javier Limón.

The film tells the story of a song that one day decided to fly around the world and reached far-flung corners of the Earth such as Lisbon, Buenos Aires, Havana, Panama, Boston, or New York. On its voyage, Volando, interpreted for the first time by Venezuelan singer Nella Rojas —awarded a Latin Grammy Awards for “Best New Artist” in 2019—, came across artists as renowned as pianist Michel Camilo, percussionists Alain Pérez and “Piraña” actress Inma Cuesta, flamenco singer Montse Cortés, and different Afro-Latin groups, among many others. And it was never the same...

“'Volando' is, essentially, a musical, human and emotional voyage towards many interconnected places, like branches from the same tree”

Volando was composed in 2017 by Javier to commemorate Airbus A350 and pay homage to all the staff that made the company’s transformation possible. In 2018, we started to think that perhaps there was a way of expanding it. And thus, the idea of flying to all the destinations that Iberia covers was born, sharing this song, and letting each country make it their own”, explains Gemma Juncà, Global Marketing & Brand Director at Iberia.

The documentary narrates that unique experience starring the song, immersing the audience in a musical world where different landscapes, talents, and accents celebrate the universal power of music together. “Volando is, essentially, a musical, human and emotional voyage towards many interconnected places, like branches from the same tree”, explains the director and composer, Javier Limón.

“Music, like aeroplanes, brings people together and cultures closer. And that’s what 'Volando' is all about, feeling connected through a melody full of good vibes”

In total, 20 artists and seven destinations that Volando visits, where it plays, is transformed, and sets flight again. “Music, like aeroplanes, brings people together and cultures closer. And that’s what Volando is all about, feeling connected through a melody full of good vibes”, adds Limón.
